AFC Supports the 2018-2019-2020-2021 United Way Campaign
Dear Colleagues,
As you know, the United Way Campaign started last week, and as your ambassador, I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with information on the impact that your valuable contributions have made in our community.
The United Way of Miami-Dade is focused on improving education, financial stability, and health—the building blocks of a good life. In the past year, United Way of Miami Dade County invested:
$16.0 million in early childhood and $2.73 million in school-age services
o 10,693 young children received quality early interventions and experiences, improving their chances for success
o 1,608 early ed professionals at 437 programs received
o 8,681 hours of professional learning
o 1,593 participated in United Way programs that helped them make good decisions 90% improved their conduct, grades and/or attendance
o 1,283 youth received job skills training
o 15,624 participated in school and/or community–based out-of-school time programs and/or individualized supports
$2.94 million to connect individuals and families with tools, training, and opportunities to become financially independent
o 5,043 workshops/sessions delivered
o More than 1,500 individuals received shelter
o Over 500,000 emergency meals were provided
o 10, 133 unemployed and underemployed participated in training and placement programs to help them access jobs
o 124 veterans and their families received employment, legal and financial help through United Way Mission United
ü $3.73 million to improve access to health, promote healthy lifestyles and help older adults stay well
o 1,417 children engaged in healthy eating, fitness, and play
o 8,033 hours of respite care provided to caregivers
